Surgical skin staples / Metallic sutures

Risks:  Thermal

Conditions:

• If possible, remove prior to MRI
• Take precautions to limit and monitor for symptoms of thermal injury

Comments:

• Consider use of dry cold packs over the staples during MRI
• CAUTION in patients who cannot communicate or sense pain

Bottom line: MRI permissible, with precautions to limit thermal injury
